SwordPlate Culture: Early Military
U. S. Sword Belt Plate - Virginia Find at Hampton Roads
More battles were fought in Virginia during the Civil War than any other state in America. This U.S. belt buckle was found in the Hampton Roads area of Norfolk County, Viriginia. It is brass and was used to hold up the sword that an officer or NCO carried during the war. It has no damage and shows a lot of use polish on the high areas attesting that some fellow wore this one a while before losing it, and maybe his life. It measures 3-1/4" long and 2-3/16" tall with a straight keeper that held the belt onto the buckle. The tongue on the back side that would attach on the other end of the belt is still intact. The pewter olive branches that would have been on each side of the eagle have long since deteriorated away while in the ground as the pewter does not hold up well buried in soil. The brass shows a natural dark surface patina with no scaratches through that natural finish. A really nice displayer.

"A Digest of Archaeological Finds in the Great River Basin of Alabama" Montgomery Glass Collectors Monograph Series #3 of 1938" by Evelyn Bush
I have this book listed in 2 catagories. I only have 1 (ONE) copy to sell.

This is a book I stumbled upon and I have never seen it before. Never even heard of it. It covers glass trade beads, bottles, and ceramics found in the Tallapoosa/Coosa/Alabama River valleys. Its an original 1938 publication that has a black re-inforcement tape on the spine that is coming off. However the original staples are holding the contents tight. It's old, but pliable and soft to read. Measurements are 11" x 6.5" wide with 19 pages of text and drawings of examples found.

Confederate Script Infantry - Two piece coat button - Virginia Find
This is a Confederate Script I infantry two piece coat button and it is in excellent excavated condition. It has a green patina over a darkened brass surface. Just enough of the green has naturally worn off leaving a good view of the script I. It was found in Hanover County, Virginia and still retains an upright shank. The part of the back mark I can read is "SUPERIOR QUALITY". This button is a flawless dug example as there are no cracks, breaks, pushes or repairs. Ref. Albert's CS 177 or Tice's CSI215 B1. 10 Civil War 54 and 58 Caliber Bullets - Minnie balls
Dont know why these got the name of Minnie balls cause they are not round and they ain't minnie. These are massive bullets that were used by the North against the South in the Civil War and were standard issue. There are 54 and 58 calibers included and there isn't much difference in size or weight. Each measures roughly 1" tall and these Union bullets are known as 3-ringers to collectors. These would make a neat display for the office or home and are drops as opposed to being shot or damaged. These were found on private property with permission in central Virginia many years ago.
