Special Offering 2
Engraved Triskell Shell Gorget - LARGE - Mississippian Culture A.D. 1350
This is the largest Scalloped shell gorget that I have seen from Georgia. It came from a collection in Chattanooga, Tennessee and had been there since the 1950's. It measaure's 5-1/8" tall and 5" wide. The shell is very hard and has no chalkyness when handled. It has the typical scallops around the edges and has a 3 line swirl towards the center. There is a central circle that is 1/2 inch wide and has a center dot. The engraving around the edges is very similar to the designs used around the edges of the rattlesnake gorgets.
