Human Effigy Bottle – Compound Vessel Style – A.D. 1350
Pristine Condition
I'm posting this vessel in the "Special Offerings" section because it was special to me for quite a few years. This fine human effigy vessel was found in Southeast Missouri. It is considered a compound vessel as the human is sitting on top of a round base. It measures8" tall and 5-3/4" at its widest point. There is a generous amount of manganese spotting on the surface attesting to its years spent in the ground, and it is in pristine, undamaged, un-restored condition. The hands are resting on the knees, there are two raised nipples, and the head has pierced ears, a head dress of some sort, and death eyes appearing as slits. The opening is in the back of the head, which is typical of these human effigies. Being a compound style is NOT typical and is one of less than 5 that I have held.
